Florida public-safety radio coverage

What Determines a Florida BDA/ERCES Project Budget?

A useful BDA system budget starts with a defined scope, not a price per square foot. A bi-directional amplifier (BDA) may be part of an emergency responder communication enhancement system (ERCES). Establish the coverage findings and proposed remedy before asking bidders to price an installation.

Ask for these budget categories

These are estimating categories to discuss, not a statement that every project requires every item. Have the bidder explain what applies to your building.

  • Assessment: coverage testing, site access and reporting.
  • Design and review: engineering scope, submissions, fees and coordination responsibilities.
  • Installation: equipment, pathways, cabling, power work, access and restoration included in the proposal.
  • Completion: testing, corrections, documentation and owner handoff.
  • Ongoing service: inspections, maintenance, repair response and exclusions.

Compare assumptions as carefully as totals

Give bidders the same floor plans, assessment results and project information. Ask which quantities are firm, which are allowances and what conditions could change the estimate. Identify work assigned to other contractors so it is not omitted from the owner’s budget.

For an early rough order of magnitude estimate, request its assumptions, exclusions and the information needed to refine it. Keep contingency visible rather than hiding uncertainty in an apparently precise total.

Keep installation and operating costs separate

Record one-time project costs separately from recurring service commitments. Compare the included response, reporting and repair scope before choosing a maintenance agreement. A low installation bid does not explain the full ownership commitment.

Start with an assessment or review of existing test results. Contact BDA Systems Compliance Experts with your building information to discuss the scope needed for a useful budget.
