Florida public-safety radio coverage

BDA Inspection and Maintenance: Choose the Right Scope

Identify whether you need a building coverage assessment, an installed-system inspection or corrective maintenance before requesting BDA inspection service. A bi-directional amplifier (BDA) can be part of an emergency responder communication enhancement system (ERCES); those different tasks answer different questions.

Identify the task

Florida’s statute places limits and exceptions on how frequently an authority may require certain building coverage assessments. Do not use an installed-system inspection schedule as proof that every building needs annual baseline testing. Florida Statutes §633.202(18)

  • Coverage assessment: evaluate public-safety radio coverage within the building.
  • Acceptance testing: evaluate a completed installation against its applicable criteria.
  • Installed-system inspection: review the existing system against the applicable inspection scope.
  • Maintenance or repair: investigate reported faults and define corrective work.

Prepare the system records

Gather drawings, previous test and inspection reports, permit or acceptance records, frequency-licensee consent and service history where available. Describe any alarm, fault, renovation or reported communication problem. Ask the provider which additional records and access arrangements are needed.

Define the service agreement

Specify the equipment covered, inspection and reporting scope, response arrangements, repair authorization and exclusions. Identify who keeps the records and who handles authority or radio-system coordination when needed.

Confirm the applicable inspection or testing schedule for the installed system and the building’s circumstances. A service contract should explain what work is included and who owns each follow-up action.

Contact BDA Systems Compliance Experts with your system records and current concerns to discuss the appropriate assessment, inspection or maintenance scope.
